Description
This wallpaper sample book comprises approximately 350 samples, each with a pattern number and roll dimensions stamped on the reverse. The reverse of some samples are stamped with their place of manufacture: France, Belgium, or England. The manufacturer of the samples is unknown, though P.R. Paris appears to be the distributor or retailer. The volume also includes a number of colour plates of suggested decorative schemes for interiors, a small volume of vitrauphanie samples, and a wallpaper price list at the end of the book. The first page of the book indicates that the wallpapers have been divided into categories according to their recommended use eg. for ceilings, dados, kitchens, etc. The wallpapers in the volume are a combination of machine printed, hand printed, and sanitary papers, and in general are much more colourful and vibrant than the wallpapers used in most Australian (and English) homes in this period.
